When you check-in someplace, we’ll tell your friends where they can find you and recommend places to go & things to do nearby. You’ll find that as your friends use Foursquare to check-in, you’ll start learning more about the places they frequent. Not only is it a great way to meet up with nearby friends, but you’ll also start to learn about their favorite spots and the new places they discover.
Here are four ways to effectively use Foursquare for business.
1. Encourage users to check-in & post reviews about your location.
Foursquare allows users to view where their friends have been within three hours of an update. Any business like a hotel, spa or restaurant could encourage Foursquare users to check-in at the given location and put thoughts about the service in the tip updated section. A business could emphasis the positive tips they receive and work on the negative tips.
2. Use the point’s structure of Foursquare and partner with a local charity
Users will gain points when they accomplish certain activities like checking-in, adding a new venue, making a repeat visit, or continually checking into a certain location. Encourage users to rack up the points and add a value to the points that they are accruing. At the end of the promotional time, donate the amount of money the points equaled to a local charity.
People will be encouraged to visit the business because not only will they be benefitting themselves, but also others in need.
3. Use the mayor status as an authority figure
The users that check-in the most at a certain location will become the “mayor” of the location or business. If you offer specials for the mayor of your location (free coffee, free appetizers during happy hour, or putting their name on a board), it will encourage users to visit your location more often to try to obtain the mayor-ship.
4.Create a fun to-do list
Create a to-do list for Foursquare users with items that are unique and quirky. Customers who complete one or more of the tasks could be rewarded a discount or badge. You could also use the to-do list to create a contest for people visiting the location. This helps show your business can be fun.
So don’t be offended when your friend pulls out their iPhone during dinner to check-in on Foursquare, they could be getting you a discount!
