Twitters new Ad!

Look for the promoted tweets to start appearing in Twitter search results.  That’s right Twitter released their new advertising platform, consisting of promoted tweets.

Now users will be able to re-tweet the advertisement, this will be found at the top of the search engine results page.  The words will be a little similar to the Google Adwords.  These ads will be based upon search keywords.

Starting the sponsoring campaign is Virgin America, Bravo, and Starbucks.  Twitter Chief Dick Costolo says, “These three companies are a perfect fit.”  This is because when you take a company that is already active in discussion over Twitter, the sponsor tweet idea is a logical step.

Twitter claims they are taking their time with this new model.  There is not a profit goal set for the first year at this moment, but the focus is on the user experience.  Ads will be sold on a CPM basis; the company is already looking at a performance-based SEO pricing strategy also.

Will Twitter be able to keep the user experience the same?  I guess we will find out.

Thanks for the post. I just about passed your site up in Ask but now I’m glad I stopped by and got to read through it. I’m definitely more informed now. I’ll be recommending your site to some friends of mine. They’ll get a kick out of what I just read too. –Tony
