9 Commandments To Social Media

Find someone who can write and spell and will not require post approval and put that person in charge of pushing out a steady drumbeat of links to clips, videos, and pictures. Make sure that person pays close enough attention to notice when something catches on among the net roots.

Make sure you tell your supporters to go follow you, and make it easy to do from every page of the campaign website. With this in mind here are the 9 commandments to Social Media.

1. Though Shall not ignore Social Media: Ignoring Social Media may be hurting you.  Google your candidate and then Google the competition.

2. Thou shall not worship the false social media god: Although you may think social media is a campaign savior. If your candidate thinks social media is a mythical medium that will catapult him/her to the top. Get Out!

3. Thou shall not let everyone know login info: Some less experienced people n the staff could cause problems unintentionally

4. Thou shall not fake a personal performance: Do not fake a personal presence if your candidate doesn’t understand, instead develop a campaign presence

5. Thou shall not fake a personal presence: Putting someone in charge of something they do not understand or use themselves will result in disaster

6. Thou shall not make social media decisions by committee: Especially small decisions.  You will not accomplish anything

7. Thou shall not link feeds: Audiences vary, and so should your messages in each social channel.

8. Honor your readers and your shares: Pay attention to what they like and don’t like.  Do not spam them

9. Though shall not let multiple staffers waste time monitoring buzz: Give the task to numbers refreshing and buzz monitoring keep the other staff away from it.
