Like they say, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” adding images into a blog post directly illustrates a point and helps get readers attention. Not only do images draw people in, but also act as content and bring traffic to your site. Depending on your blog theme, you could potentially bring traffic to your site through image search in search engines and boost your page’s ranking.
Using Bad Images
Using images could have a negative effect on your blog if the images are not properly used. The size and format of a photo used on a site is extremely important. If the size is too large, it can eat up your hosting space quickly. Large photo sizes also increase the load time of your pages, making readers reluctant to come to your site.
Therefore, it’s best to resize pictures to appropriate sizes before uploading an image to your blog. And, make sure to use a web friendly format to save. Some web friendly image formats include JPEG .jpg extension, Gif .gif extension and PNG .png extension. TIFF .tif and Bitmap .bmp files are usually too large and will increase your pages load time.
Benefits of Using Your Own Images
Not only is using your own images free, but also there’s no copyright to worry about. Some stock photography sites require that you include a copyright statement in the caption, or a hyperlink back to the original source. When you use your own photography in your blog articles, you don’t have to worry about infringing on someone else’s copyright.
Adding your own pictures to your blog posts helps make it personal and add character.
