I’ve been blogging and emphasizing a variety of popular social networks. It may seem overwhelming trying to remember each social network and its benefits, so here is a brief summary that should help.
Facebook: a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. People use Facebook to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet. When I blogged “5 Ways to Increase Your Facebook Fan Base,” I stressed 5 points on how to get the most out of your Facebook fan page as a business. These 5 points consisted of enticing people to become fans, maintaining content, creating a personal connection, interacting and giving fans a sneak peak of a new product or service.
Foursquare: a location based social networking application. According to Foursquare’s site, people use Foursquare to “check-in,” which is a way of telling people about your whereabouts. When you check-in someplace, they tell your friends where they can find you and recommend places to go & things to do nearby. People check-in at all kinds of places – cafes, bars, restaurants, parks, homes and offices. When I blogged “4 Ways to Use Foursquare,” I emphasized 4 points on how to utilize Foursquare. These 4 points consisted of encouraging users to check-in & post reviews about your location, using the point’s structure of Foursquare to partner with a local charity, using the mayor status as an authority figure, and creating a fun to-do list.
LinkedIn: a popular business-orientated social networking site. People use LinkedIn to make a sale, form a partnership or find a job. When I blogged “Utilize your LinkedIn Profile,” I mentioned 5 points. They included increasing your profile visibility, filling out your full profile, taking advantage of LinkedIn recommendations, checking out LinkedIn profiles before interviews, and asking for advice.
Twitter: a popular micro-blogging service that allows people to type in short messages or status updates that can be read by people following them. When I blogged “Fabulous Free Twitter Tools,” I went over 4 free Twitter tools. These tools were scheduling posts, HootSuite, TwitPic, and blogging.
Although these are just brief summaries of the articles, I encourage you to click any of the links above to read more about each social network, or to get a refresher on the benefits of social networking. And, if you have any questions, I would be happy to answer any via email – amy@futureranking.com.
