Writing a blog post is easy. Writing a great blog post is not. Here are a few things that can turn an ordinary blog post into an extraordinary blog post.
A) Make your blog post timely and interesting
People aren’t going to read your post if they’re not interested. Making a post interesting can be difficult, but here are a few concepts to keep in mind: make sure the topic is relevant, current and useful. Current topics, garnished with your own personal opinions, are a great way to bring people to read your blog posts.
B) Pay attention to the title and headings
Titles and headings make it easier for the reader to quickly decide if they want to engage in your blog post. The title is what gets them initially interested, and the headings keep them hooked when reading your blog post. Highlighting relevant portions and expressions with the use of headings will ensure readers will read the whole post.
A well-written title like “Tips on Creating Your Twitter Name” can get you good rankings on search engine result pages like Google and Yahoo.
C) Keep blog posts concise
Try to keep your blog post concise and to the point. Don’t unnecessarily increase the length of a blog post. Readers can tell when you have nothing to say and are rambling about non-relevant points.
D) Stick to a fundamental theme
It’s not realistic to try and cover every topic. People come to your blog to read on a particular topic, and preferably a topic you specialize in.
For example, look at our Bellevue web design blog where we talk about SEO and social web issues. We don’t blog about baking cookies or going shopping, we blog about Bellevue web design, SEO, social media applications, and copy writing.
The next time you think about posting a general blog post, keep these tips in mind and your increased rankings and comments will prove that these tips are worthwhile.
